MasterClass vs. LinkedIn Learning: Which is the Best Online Learning Platform?

While the purpose of online learning sites is similar from one site to another, they can vary in many aspects, such as content delivery methods, membership plans, ease of use, and many others.

To determine which one is the best, we have to analyze what makes these sites stand out from one another.

Today, we are going to take a look at MasterClass and LinkedIn Learning and compare them for your convenience.

Both of these sites are well known, but when we really jump into it, you will quickly see that these sites both have advantages and disadvantages.

Are you ready to find out which one is the best? Let’s see:

Don’t Want To Read The Whole Article? Here’s Our Winner

If you’re looking to save some time, we have MasterClass as the winner. Sure, LinkedIn Learning has a wider range of courses. However, I find LinkedIn Learning to be incredibly overpriced. And all in all, I didn’t find the courses to be great. However, that is my experience, and I know others are fans.

Still, MasterClass wins this battle.

Membership Plans

MasterClass has Multiple Payment Plans

Currently, MasterClass offers two types of memberships. A single course costs $90; with this, you ensure complete access to the course whenever you want, at any time, and with every resource material included.

However, if you want the best experience possible, MasterClass also offers you an ‘All-Access Pass’ for $180 per year. With this membership, you get complete access to every single course available on the site for the duration of your membership.

This makes it a really great value, and if you take two courses, it pays for itself. Any other course you take during the year is really free!

LinkedIn Learning Prices

This site also offers two membership plans; however, they are a lot different than the ones in MasterClass.

The first membership plan consists of monthly payments of $29.99. This gives you total access to every course, offline viewing, completion certificates, and personalized recommendations.

The second membership plan consists of an annual plan in which you save 17% of the total cost. If you choose this plan, you end up paying $24.99 per month, which is a bit lower than paying monthly. With this membership plan, you get the same benefits as the monthly plan.

Regardless of what membership plan you choose, you can get a one-month free trial with complete access, and if you like it, then you start paying. At least you can get a “try before you buy” option here, which we really like.

Winner: MasterClass wins here with their model. The LinkedIn Learning platform is almost double the price of MasterClass and that’s nowhere near value for money.

Course Selection

MasterClass has a Growing Library

MasterClass provides classes regarding art, sports, business, politics, and general entertainment. However, its main focus is everything related to film, tv, music, acting, and creative writing.

In MasterClass, you can find classes taught by celebrities and industry leaders. If you want courses that go more on the creative side, then MasterClass is the best option since its catalog mainly consists of courses in the creative field. When you combine all of this together, it’s really pretty cool.

LinkedIn Learning Course Range

LinkedIn Learning leans more on the software and programming side. If you get a membership on this site, you can expect content regarding software, education, marketing, finance, career development, graphic design, and many others.

Learning from LinkedIn Learning can help you develop a lot of skills that may be helpful while looking for a new job. While you can’t compare the content offered between the two sites entirely, LinkedIn Learning provides content in a lot more areas that may be of interest to you.

Winner: LinkedIn Learning wins this one. MasterClass is a somewhat new platform and doesn’t have a wide range of courses like LinkedIn Learning. Also, MasterClass is somewhat hindered growth-wise by having all their courses taught by celebrities.

It also really depends on the type of course you’re after. For example, if you’re looking for cooking, writing, or sport/games courses, then MasterClass is the best option.

Ease of Use

MasterClass is Incredibly Easy to Use

Using MasterClass is relatively easy. To register, you can go into their page, use an e-mail, password and membership plan, and you’re set. To watch a course, you can pay for it; or if you got the All-Access Pass, you can access it directly or download it to view the classes offline. Courses are divided into categories which make finding the course you want more quickly.

MasterClass is available on every internet-streaming platform, and it has dedicated apps on both Android and iOS, making it easier to watch on mobile devices. If you own a Smart TV, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, or Roku device, you can access your content quickly from your TV at any time.

After you buy a course, you automatically get resource materials that can help you complement the information given to you on the videos.

LinkedIn Learning has App Featurability

LinkedIn Learning offers a personalized approach to watching your courses. While registering, the site asks you for your preferences, and then the site looks up what courses may be of interest.

You can also discover courses by looking into the three main categories of the site: Business, Creative, and Technology.

LinkedIn Learning also provides a ‘Top Liked’ and ‘Trending’ pages for you to check, which are the most popular courses at the moment.

The site has an app that you can find in both iOS and Android devices, but it doesn’t support Smart TV devices.
